Week 5 EOC: Socail Media and Job Seeking

Today people are starting to use social media to promote and network to find jobs. Because with unemployment rates on the rise, companies are being more selective about the people they hire. It's becoming more common for hiring managers to value a candidate's presence on popular social networks, in addition to traditional qualifications such as a strong resume and interview skills. Job seekers who want a competitive edge in this market are turning to alternative online sites to catch the attention of potential employers and find new job openings before the general public does. Like Facebook has become a primarily used by companies to research their interviewees. Facebook is also a good way for you to research companies and the people who work for them. You may even be able to look up the person who is interviewing you. This will give you a good indication of the things that they have been involved with in the past. LinkedIn is another good resource for job hunting, the online networking site allows you to upload your resume and connect with people in your chosen field. Most companies will have a presence on this site; they may also advertise vacancies here too. You can also find out so much about a company from their profile, you can also find out about people who have recently been employed with the company. Twitter is another major site but not as effective as Facebook or LinkedIn. Lots of career sites will have their own Twitter streams and will have regular updates on opportunities within their company. So by using these methods within these site, you are more likely to get your name out there and in the end get a job.
