Week 2 EOC Boston Consulting Group-Video Games

In the world of video game console manufacturer, three companies have been at war to be number one. Nintendo Wii U (Dog), Sony PlayStation 4 (Star), and Microsoft Xbox One (Star). Each with their own strengths and weaknesses.  Starting with the Wii U. It’s cheaper than Xbox One and PS4. The Gamepad is ingenious and versatile, the console is well-designed, quiet and unobtrusive. But unfortunately it suffers from slow firmware and poor battery life for the Gamepad.

The Wii U may not be the most powerful console on the market, but what it lacks in specs it makes up for with a stellar lineup of first-party games and innovative (if underused) hardware. Lack of support from significant third parties like EA and Activision still holds the console back, though, and the gaps in its library left by absent multiplatform games are significant” IGN.com

As of today, the PS4 seems to be winning the war over Xbox One. Both consoles have the same specs with some minor differences. Each with exclusive titles, with the PS4 being a bit cheaper than Xbox One by less than a hundred dollars.

“PlayStation 4's focus on gaming — and only gaming — is undermined by a distinct lack of compelling software. That failing is sure to improve — better games and more of them will appear on the PlayStation 4 — but right now, this is a game console without a game to recommend it. Early adopters of the PS4 this fall are buying potential energy. We're just waiting for a place to spend it.” Polygon.com

“Far better than it once was, and destined to keep improving, Xbox One is a truly modern piece of kit. It suffers for its catch-all approach a little, but you won't see some of its tricks on any competitor's machine.” Techradar.com
